The MT Helmets quick visor change system

El sistema de cambio rápido de pantalla MT Helmets

If you’ve ever had to change your helmet visor due to wear, embedded dirt, or simply for aesthetic reasons, you know that not all systems are easy to handle. On some models, you have to deal with side covers, delicate fittings, or parts you don’t want to force to avoid damaging them.

With this real-world experience in mind, the MT Helmets engineering team developed MT-QVSS: a mechanism that allows you to install and remove the visor in about 5 seconds, without tools, and with such an intuitive logic that you don’t even need to take off your helmet to do it. This technology is introduced to the market for the first time with the Thunder 4 SV, the first helmet to feature it.

MT-QVSS system

What is MT-QVSS and what problem does it solve?

MT-QVSS (Quick Visor Swap System) is a quick-change visor system designed to simplify a task that, in practice, happens more often than it seems:

  • Replacing a scratched visor (clearer vision, fewer reflections).
  • Switching between clear and tinted visors depending on light conditions or type of ride.
  • Deep cleaning when there is dust, mud, or insects.
  • Keeping the helmet in perfect condition after intensive use.

The goal is not just speed. It’s about making the change so straightforward that you don’t postpone it “for another day.” In terms of safety, that’s often where the difference lies: doing things when they should be done.

  • No tools required: no need for keys or screws.
  • Intuitive operation: one motion to release, another to secure.
  • Secure fitting: avoids incorrect placement, noise, or vibrations.

And yes: whether you’re at home, in the garage, or stopped in a safe place during a ride, being able to do it without taking off your helmet is a plus. Not essential, but it removes friction.

Why changing your helmet visor is not just a whim

Some riders keep using a worn visor “until it breaks,” but in reality, a damaged visor affects you much sooner:

  • At night, micro-scratches create annoying halos from lights.
  • In low sunlight, reflections appear right when they are most distracting.
  • In the city, dirt reduces contrast and visibility.

Proprietary technology, designed by MT Helmets

MT-QVSS is a system developed in-house by the brand’s engineering team. This “in-house” approach becomes clear when a solution is designed with real riders in mind.

It is introduced for the first time with the Thunder 4 SV , a well-balanced helmet for real-world use with ECE 22.06 certification, the current standard in Europe.
